Daniel equals Daniel

The law of Identity says “Daniel equals Daniel”. Does it mean that Daniel is equal to himself -which is a silly statement .If that is the case what is the big deal in making a law out of it ? It perhaps means that in the equation Daniel=Daniel ,the identity referred to by the word on the left side is the same as the identity referred to on the right side. It does not mean that Daniel is equal to himself, which is a pointless statement. Because Daniel is obviously the same as himself.
