Bollywood laid bare:Interview by Urmee Khan with Shobha De

“To many in the west,Indian fiction is characterised by large mournful tomes about families and feelings, written by such authors as Arundhati Roy,Kiran Desai and Rohinton Mistry. To them Shobha De’s work comes as a shock…They describe a side of the country that western audiences rarely encounter, her central theme being power, greed ,lust and sex”

A successful writer ? Yes. Not certainly in the league of the above mentioned novelists who have a much profounder vision than her. “mournful tomes ” is a undeserved description of their work. Promoting De need not be by running down the good ones.
